Kenyan MPs are demanding the release of 22 fishermen they claim to have been arrested by Ugandan Police on Lake Victoria.

The matter was raised by Kenyan MP John Mbadi at the Kenyan Parliament on Wednesday.

The legislator demanded that Kenyan security forces should deploy to protect Kenyan fishermen, and accused Ugandan security personnel of routinely harassing Kenyan fishermen on Lake Victoria.

Media reports indicate that seventeen Kenyan fishermen were arrested on Lake Victoria on Monday night, and detained on Ugandan islands by Ugandan security personnel.

Previous incidences of arrest involved accusations of trespassing into Ugandan waters.
